On 24 June 2024, the consortium hosted Dr. Patience Gwaze, the Air Quality Officer of South Africa from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), Vumile Senene, the country lead for the Clean Air Fund, as well as Gill Gifford, a senior journalist from the Sunday Times and Prof. Yahya Tayalati from the University of Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco who is the lead Principal Investigator of AI4TB, funded by the IDRC. Additionally, we were joined by Prof. Mary Kawonga from the Wits School of Public Health and Prof. Busisiwe Nklala-Dlamini from the Wits School of Human and Community Development, who attended as part of the SACAQM team.
The agenda for the engagement was to unveil the dashboard that has been developed by the team to display the data collected by the network of sensors deployed in Soweto and around the Wits campus. Our sensors will be integrated into the SAAQIS network of the DFFE.
The dashboard is online (https://sacaqm-frontend.onrender.com/) and hosted by DigiMine, which is led by Mr. Ahsan Mahboob. We walked them through the stations that we have at the University of Witwatersrand campus, showing them the sensors and how they work. One of our stations is at the NRF's iThemba LABS at the Wits campus, and the other is at the Origins Centre.
