The most recent GitHub Octoverse report reveals impressive advances in South Africa's tech scene. Artificial intelligence (AI) and open-source-driven projects are growing not just in our country but across the African continent.
The SACAQM AI_r system, an AI-powered air quality monitoring system developed by the University of the Witwatersrand and iThemba LABS. It uses state-of-the-art air quality sensors with a low-cost Internet-of-Things (IoT) network architecture to provide real-time air quality data, predict pollution levels, and detect hotspots.
SACAQM focus is on developing a low-power, wireless air quality monitoring system that uses AI to improve public health and support global carbon neutrality efforts. By combining government, research, and industry efforts, the consortium aims to provide an cost-effective solution to air pollution.
